How to Pull Out a Tooth

If you read my earlier post, then you know that my little jewels first tooth 'fell out.' And by fell out I mean pulled out because I could not stand to see it hanging from that last little thread of whatever that keeps teeth in place way, way too long.

My Little Jewel is 5 and actually has 3 teeth that are loose. Now, I have come to find out that there are various stages of loose. First you have loose. This is stage one. This is still the cute, tell everyone stage. " I haf a woose toof"...."oh how cute, his tooth wiggles..."

Then you move on to really loose. This is when you gross others out when he can move it with his own tongue.

Then you move on to damn, that's disgustingly loose. This is when the tooth is held in by just a string of tissue. It flops when he eats and if you really get close, you can kind of hear a squishy sound. When you get to the damn that disgusting stage...its time for you to take action.

First , try something easy like corn on the cob or an apple. Give nature one more chance to expel the dangling bit of calcium. If that does not work, you can suggest the old stand by: tie a bit of string around the tooth, then to a door knob and slam the door shut. However, if your child is anything like my child. This method may meet with some resistance. What I found to be simple and painless is to just get a clean kitchen towel. Ask your little jewel if you can wiggle his tooth. Grab it with the kitchen towel and YANK. And by yank, I really mean catch it in your hand because it is just THAT LOOSE. If you do it right, your little jewel will not even notice what has happened. You can show him his tooth and quickly move on to the Tooth Fairy story. I find that any talk of money from the tooth fairy will turn most budding capitalist thoughts to what they will buy after the tooth fairy has visited. And if your little jewel is anything like my little jewel; the thought of purchasing a new toy brings on a .........

I hated when my Grandma did that. She always joked about the doorknob thing too.

Jealousy is what my daughter is feeling right now. At the end of the school year, there were only 4 that hadn't lost teeth...and she is one of them. She even asked the dentist when it was going to happen, the poor thing.

Congrats! It is such a huge thing for kids.

LOL, I feel your pain! I had to do the same thing with my 6 yr old. Two weeks ago, we tried everything to get a top tooth out. One day, I asked if I could wiggle it & I popped it out, but it took no effort, it was so loose! He looks so cute w/his missing tooth!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

My grandfather always wanted to pull out my loose teeth - I was a chicken and tried to hide them, but it was like he was born to pull loose teeth and he always got them! And always used the doorknob joke also! Ack!

My kids learned to pull out their own teeth with a paper towel, kinda like with the kitchen towel. They preferred me not to yank on them! Actually, their papaw pulled out their first few teeth. I think that's great that he let you pull his tooth. Oh, and speaking of the doorknow, my dad, their papaw, actually did that to me when I was little. It didn't work! Great post.

Thanks for the info! I'll tuck it away for when my baby grows up - though I'm not looking forward to that particular part!
