First off, we leave for Disneyland in about 5 hours…so why I was making Valentine Treats for my little jewel’s class last night during all the scurrying of packing can only be termed as crazy. ( Oh, and to take the time to photograph it as well… yeah, I should be committed.)
The first step is to make rice crispy treats. I did not document that here since I think everyone is born knowing how to make rice crispy treats. After the RC treats were cooled, I cut them into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
Next, I melted one bag of chocolate chips. I used milk chocolate because that is what we like… you can use anything you like. (Also, one little tip is to add a small bit of oil… less than a capful… to the melted chocolate. You cant taste it or see it; but it makes the chocolate a little smoother for dipping.)
After the chips were melted, I dipped about half of the RC treat in the chocolate and set it out on foil to be decorated. My assistant chef here chose red/white/pink non perils as the decoration.
While the chocolate is still warm, pour on the sprinkles. Then let them harden. (I put them in the fridge since I needed to move this along if I was going to get to bed at decent hour.)
After all the RC treats were dipped, decorated and in the fridge; it was time to lick the bowl…err, I mean clean up.
After the chocolate had hardened, we wrapped each one up in cellophane and tied with a ribbon. ( Earlier in the week, we cut out pink tags and my little chef wrote the name of each of his Valentines- all 25 of them. So managed to work in a little homework as well..hehe)
And voila, off to school he went with 25 oohey, gooey chocolate hearts. That aught to get him good and riled up for the plane ride. ( See note about “crazy” above )
Happy Valentines Day to all and to all a good night!
