Solar System #2

LJ and I have been researching different ways to build our 3D solar system.  I thought it would be cool to make them out of cookies our cupcakes; but LJ quickly put the kabosh on that as "been done". (Really, when it comes to 3D models of the solar system, I am pretty sure it has all been done.  I'm not bitter.)

So after my genius idea tossed to the curb, we started looking for ideas. We are not supposed to buy the kit; but make it ourselves.  I know some parents will buy the kit and have perfectly round, beautifully painted planets; but so far LJ just wants me to have an large electrical sun in the center attached to something that spins so the planets move around the sun. 

Ah-what?

Paint, yes.  Paper mache, no problem.  Electrical work?
This is going to be a bigger project than I thought.  Cant we just build it out of Lego's?
Any ideas?
